Last Minute London Hotel Deals for the King's Coronation

It's a busy week for the UK as the country prepares for the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6th May. The Coronation service will begin at 11am at Westminster Abbey and will be followed by a weekend of events nationwide, including Coronation Big Lunches, a special concert at Windsor Castle and a bank holiday on Monday 8th May.

Are you heading to London for the big day? Here we've shared some of the Coronation-themed events happening in the capital this weekend, plus how to book a last-minute London hotel for the King's Coronation.

What to do in London for the King's Coronation

Watch the Royal Processions

Two processions occur on the day of the King's Coronation between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. Before the Coronation ceremony, the King and Queen Consort will travel from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, passing The Mall, Admiralty Arch, King Charles I Island, Whitehall, Parliament Street, Parliament Square and Broad Sanctuary, for what's officially known as the King's Procession.

After the ceremony, they will make the same journey (but in reverse), joined by other senior royals for the Coronation Procession. Following this, the King, Queen Consort and senior members of the royal family will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

If you want to catch a glimpse of the procession, there will be several spots to position yourself close to the route, but it will be busy! Alternatively, you can catch live coverage of the procession and Coronation ceremony on big screens across London in Hyde Park, The Green Park and St James's Park, Holland Park, Power Station Park, Covent Garden, St James's Market on Region Street and Wembley Park.

Join in with a Public Street Party in London

Street parties are taking place all over the UK this weekend, but if you still need to make plans, there's an open invite to several street parties across London. Grosvenor Square is hosting a free garden party on the 6th and 7th May with picnic benches, wine bars, live performances, and special offers at nearby shops and eateries. In addition, the Connaught Hotel is hosting a street party on 7th May, and there's also a weekend of activities taking place at Battersea Power Station.

Visit the Coronation Capsule at The London Eye

The London Eye has created a special Coronation Capsule to celebrate the King's Coronation, which will be open until 8th May. Hop on and enjoy the spectacular views of London while participating in your own Coronation! The capsule features a replica of the 700-year-old Coronation Chair, and replicas of the Crown Jewels are available as props to use in your photos. Tickets for the Coronation Capsule cost £60 per person, including a glass of champagne or soft drink and fast-track boarding.

Mingle with Royalty at Madame Tussauds

Rub shoulders with the King and Queen Consort (in wax form) at Madame Tussauds' brand-new Royal Palace Experience. Take as many selfies as you like with the royals and enjoy a quintessentially British afternoon tea!

Enjoy a special London River Cruise

Coronation Cruises will continue to run on the River Thames until 8th May, offering stunning views of the city's best sights, from Westminster Abbey to the Tower of London. Hopping aboard will also prove a great way to escape the crowded streets on Coronation weekend, plus you can top it off with a Coronation-themed afternoon tea or dinner - sounds delightful!
